Number Sense Math Lessons
Quantity Relationships & Counting
Below are some lessons we used near the beginning of the school year. We began with Counting and Quantity Relationships.
Each lesson contains a warm-up activity, followed by a problem. Where possible, we've included the "before" and "after" notebook files, so that one can see some of the student solutions captured on the document camera. All of these lessons are in Smart Notebook 11 File format. Please feel free to modify for use in your own classroom.

Addition & Subtraction
The ppt below is taken in part from the LNS K-3 Numeracy summer workshops in 2007. Although the Grade 3 curriclum deals with 2- and 3-digit numbers, we -- like many of our colleagues -- have found that a number of students required further consolidation of and a greater automaticity with basic facts in addition and subtraction. The focussed drills and games below, taken from the GEIM, can help with this. See page 3 of the GEIMNSN for more info.

Multiplication & Division
We took a slightly different approach with this unit. Below, you will see three lessons, each spanning 2-3 days with multiple problems. The final of these three lessons is about division with remainders. Then a short lesson/worksheet on multiplication table to consolidate the commutative property. Finally, a day (or two, or three, as you wish) of games which can be played to consolidate multiplication and division facts to 49. (While the class is playing math games, the teacher may wish to pull aside individual or groups of students to remediate specific skills as necessary.)
