As part of the project, my colleague and I are expected to share our learning. While we are eager to do so, it can be a challenge to balance the needs of all stakeholders. My years in Resource and as a Pre-Service Instructor at the Faculty of Ed have taught me how much more valuable a colleague's informal sharing can be in moving learning forward, than a more formal "workshop" that has been laid on by those "in power". That being said, in schools where those in power are in support of what's happening at the grass roots level, considerably more can be accomplished.
After surveying staff, and meeting with our school principal to ascertain her needs, we have come up with a draft plan for the months ahead.
We will first share a little about our project at an upcoming staff meeting. Following this, there will be an opportunity for interested teachers to come and watch what happens during math in our classrooms. Finally, teachers will be invited to a 3-part "Lunch and Learn", during which they will have a chance to share questions and concerns about the Smart Board, and/or about teaching math this way. We also hope to give people some time to try out the Smart Board themselves, and create a lesson to use with their own students.
Part of today's TLLP day focussed on drafting an outline for said plans. An outline is below, for anyone interested...
